“A New Creature”

Hi! I want to thank you for joining me today as we look into God’s Holy Word to determine how we can become
more faithful followers of Christ, and better witnesses to the world.

Heavenly Father, I come before you, in the name of Jesus, asking that you speak though me, and open our
heart and our ears to receive your word. Speak to us Lord, and prepare our heart for your coming. AMEN

Today I want to speak about becoming a new Creature in Christ, living and acting like you ought to act as a
Child of God. I have entitled the message for today, “A New Creature.” I want to begin by taking a look at 2
Corinthians 5:17. listen to these words.

2 Corinthians 5:17 states
17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are

become new.

After one has accepted Jesus as their personal savior, they receive salvation and become a Child of God. When
this happens, they should become a new Creature in Christ, a born again believer, one of God‘s Children. There
should be an obvious change in their heart, and a difference in the way they live their life. There should be a
difference in the way they talk and certainly in the way they act. Sinful things they were doing before receiving Jesus
should no longer be a part of their life. Sinful things that had a hold on them before should be loosened, and replaced
with a desire to follow Jesus and do what’s right. Once a person becomes a Child of God, they receive the Holy
Spirit. With the Holy Spirit dwelling in them, they should begin to bear fruits worthy unto God instead of the works of
the flesh that are common in the world.

Listen to what it says in Galatians 5:19-23:

Galatians 5:19-23
19. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20. idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21. envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time

past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23. gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

The fruits of the flesh which are mentioned in verses 19-21. They are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness,
lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions,
heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and so on.” When one becomes a Child of God, none of these sins
should be a part of your life and certainly should not be practiced.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, the desire to do these things should be removed as you  became a new creature
in Christ. The moment, the Holy Spirit comes into your heart, which happens when you accepts Jesus, there should
be a desire in your heart to do what is good. Along with that desire, also comes the knowledge of what sin is. Then
with the Help of the Holy Spirit and a little effort from ourselves, the desires we had to do sinful things is removed
from our heart and from our mind. Yet, even though they have been removed, Satan will try to remind you of them,
and he will try to get you to return to your former ways, but with Christ living in you, and with the Holy Spirit leading
you, you have the ability to see  what sin really is, and you can remain faithful to Christ.

I hate to say this, but, unfortunately there are many in the church who are practicing the works of the flesh
mentioned in Galatians 5. A better word for works of the flesh is sin. Many of these folks claim they are a Child of
God, yet they commit these sins and do not appear to have any concerned about doing them. Paul wrote in 2
Corinthians 5:17:

2 Corinthians 5:17
17. ……. if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become

new.

It is not my place to judge them, but I do wonder; If one accepts Jesus, and becomes a Child of God, is he or she
not considered to be in Christ? The answer to that is yes. If that person then is in Christ, then according to Paul, the
old things are passed away and all things are become new. Should not there be a difference in them, a difference
between them and those who are in the world, a marked difference between the way they are living and the way the
ungodly of the world are living and acting? Again, the answer is yes.

Jesus referred to becoming a new creature, as being converted, and becoming as a little child. If you think about
it, a little child doesn’t practice the sins of the flesh listed in Galatians five. They wouldn’t have a need or a desire too
do so. Neither would they understand what these things mean.

As a new Creature in Christ, a converted person who has become as a little child, we should not practice them
either nor should we seek to experience them or for that matter even understand them. Our heart should be upon
Jesus, and on living in a wholesome and Godly manor. Our lives should display the fruits of the Spirit that are found
in  Galatians 5:22-23:

Galatians 5:22-23
22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23. gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Isn’t this the way a little child thinks and feels? Doesn’t he have love for everyone, along with a childlike joy at
everything God made? Doesn’t he have peace in his heart? If you don’t think so, just watch that little child when they
are sleeping. Children are certainly long suffers, and are quick and willing to forgive anyone for anything. They are
gentle, and full of goodness, and unadulterated faith. They are meek, temperate, and kind. That’s what Jesus said
we should be when we are a Child of God because these things displays how a Christian is supposed to act when
the old things are gone and Christ is in control. Once Christ has control, he and the Holy Spirit makes us new, and
we display the fruits of the spirit and the mind of Christ to others.

Many of you listening, have at some time in your life, come before the throne of God and sought forgiveness
from Almighty God. Leading up to that time, something pricked your heart. You heard the Gospel preached, you
heard a song sung that opened your heart to Jesus, or someone took the time to explain salvation to you. Whatever
the method, you realized that you were a sinner, bound for hell, so you come before God, sought forgiveness and the
salvation Jesus purchased for you with his blood. When you admitted your sins, and asked Jesus into your heart, the
Holy Spirit entered your life as well and He started a work in you. He started cleaning your heart, and making you into
a new creature, and converting you from a lost child of the world, to a saved Child of God who has received eternal
life and is headed to heaven.

The cleansing does not stop here, but instead it continues for as long as you live. You see, conversion is an
ongoing thing. Just like your old automobile, you have to tune up your life occasionally, and be converted from things
that need to be changed or fixed back into the creature God want‘s us to be. All this happens through the work of the
Holy Spirit, by  something you hear, or read in God’s Holy word. Through it, the Holy Spirit convicts you, and shows
you that you need to change or do something differently.

The problem for many of us is; what the Holy spirit tells us to stop doing is things we really don’t want to quit, so
instead of allowing him to change us, we turn Him a deft ear and continue doing wrong. Some continue looking at
their pornography and watch movies they ought not to watch. Some continue partying, drinking, and having sex
outside of marriage. Others keep on lusting, and coveting, and even hating others for things they have said or done.
Some practice homosexuality, while others listen to heresy, and believe what the non-believers have to say instead of
what God has said.

Because they enjoy doing these things, they turn a deft ear to the Holy Spirit and keep on doing whatever they
have been doing all along, refusing to regard anything God tells them, or see what the Holy Spirit is trying to make
them see.

Instead of listening to the Holy Spirit, they listen to Satan’s unholy spirits who are whispering in their ear telling
them it’s no fun doing what God says, or that God is so loving he won’t mind if we refuse to change and follow him. I’
m afraid that God will not be happy with those who refuse to follow his son, or turn from the wickedness of the world.

Some of the most frightening verses in the bible are the words of Jesus which is found in Matthew 7:21-23.
Listed to these words:

Matthew 7:21-23
21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of

my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out

devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

These are the words of Jesus. They’re not mine. I think Christ was talking to  Christians when he said this, or at
least to those who profess to be one. He said: and I quote, “Not everyone who says Lord Lord shall enter the
kingdom of heaven.” In other words, not everyone who claims to be a Christian, not everyone who claims to be a
Child of God, not everyone will enter the kingdom of heaven. According to what Jesus said, Only those who do the
will of God the Father, will be allowed into heaven. Only those who have been converted and turned from the
wickedness of the world and who has allowed Christ to direct their lives, will enter the kingdom of heaven. Those who
are found wanting will be cast into hell, to suffer fro ever and ever.

Jesus went on to say in verses 22 and 23,

22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in
thy name have cast out

devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.

I believe we can add to these verses such things as we might try to plead with God, things such as “Lord, didn’t I
go to church on Sunday morning, didn’t I put money in the offering plate, wasn’t I baptized, didn’t I go to the altar of
repentance,” and still he will say, “I never knew you.”

You see, many people are claiming to be a Christian, many are claiming to be a Child of God. Many of them
have been baptized, and so on, but only a few have really given their heart to God, truly repented of their sins, and
turned from evil in order to follow the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul and strength. Many do not display the fruits
of the spirit, and some deny the Power of God, yet they believe they are on their way to heaven.

As I said earlier, I cannot judge anyone, but the bible tells me that by their fruits we shall know them, and by
looking these people, I see a very dangerous problem in their life, one that if not corrected and a new life takes hold,
will likely lead them to hell instead of to heaven.

There is a huge difference between asking Jesus into your heart, and allowing him to come in. You can ask him
in, but unless you open your heart and give yourself to him, he will not come in. He’s a gentleman, and He will not
force himself on you.  The only way he will come into your heart or into your life, is if you ask him, and open your
heart so he can enter.

The good news is, he wants to be a part of your life. If you have never accepted him or sought his forgiveness
for your sins, he would love to have you come to him today and seek his forgiveness. He would love to have you as
one of his disciples, and would love to teach you through his Holy Spirit.

If you are one of those who went through the motions of being saved, but never really meant it, and if you do not
see the fruits of Christ evident in your life, do not despair,  Christ still loves you, and he would love to take up
residence in your heart as well.

If you have never asked Jesus into your heart, and have never sought his forgiveness, I would like to pray a
prayer with you. If you desire to have Jesus come into your heart, if you desire to be saved and have eternal life,
simply pray the prayer I am going to pray and if you are sincere, he will save you, and you will have eternal life.

Lord Jesus, I know that I’m a sinner, bound for hell. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, and that you
made a way for all who believe in you to have eternal life. Forgive me for my sins, and cleanse me from all
unrighteousness. I invite you into my heart today. I desire that you take up residence in me, and to make me into a
new creature. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, and guide me down the path of righteousness. Thank you for hearing my
prayer, and thank you for forgiving me of my sins, and giving me eternal life. Walk with me, show me the way to live,
and help me be a good witness for you. AMEN.

If you prayed this prayer and you meant it, Jesus is now living in your heart and you have become a Child of
God. I urge you to tell someone what you did today, and if you are not already involved in a good bible teaching
church, find one, and attend it regularly. If I can help you in any way, the announcer will be giving my information
when I close so you can contact me. In the meantime, God bless you, and keep you safe in his care. AMEN
