“My Help Comes From God”
Greetings my Friends. I'm Pastor Don Guthrie and I would like to thank you for joining me today as we look
into God’s Holy Word to learn how we can become more faithful followers of Christ, and a better witnesses to the
Heavenly Father, I come before you, in the name of Jesus. Speak though me, and open our heart and our
ears to receive your word. AMEN
I don’t know about you but every time I turn on the TV to look at the news, or pick up a News Paper, I am
overwhelmed by the violence-taking place around the world. I can't remember another time in my life, when there
was as much unrest as it is now. Presently, American soldiers are fighting in three different wars, and there is
unrest in a number of the countries surrounding Israel.
From what I have read and heard, much of what's happening is a no win situation and no matter what the
outcome is, there will still be problems and turmoil. I’m sure that Israel is watching very close to see what happens,
just as man other countries are, including America.
Yet it is not just the unrest in other countries that threatens us, there are many other threats as well, threats
such as drugs, violence, and worst of all, the falling away from God that is prevalent in the church of today. But
there is good news found in these problems, they are all signs that Jesus is coming soon to take his followers
home to heaven. But, in the meantime, we are faced with evil that's running amuck in the world.
I wish I tell you today that it's will get better. But the fact is, it will not. Violence and ungodliness is going to
escalate as Satan gathers his followers for the final battle with God, and only the strong will survive and continue
to live and work for Christ. You might say, it won’t happen here in America, well, I hope you're right, but I believe it
will. I have prophesied for years that the time will come when there will be a chain on the door of your church, and
to worship even in America will be a crime. That my friends, is not very far down the road.
The church of today is week. It has a form of godliness, but denies the power God has given it. Prayer is
almost a thing of the past. Most of the prayers offered are for ourself, instead of for our country, our church or
others. It seems like we only call on God if we need something or want him to do our bidding, and that is not the
way God works.
It's time for Christians everywhere, to fall down on their knees and start praying for strength, guidance and
protection. It is time for Christians to start praying as if everything depends on God because it does. You can sit
back and say that the things happening around the world isn't you concern, but I ask you, if it's not your concern,
whose concern is it? Jesus said that we have not because we ask not, and if we sit silently by, Satan is going to
take over, because we don’t care enough to do anything about it.
You may be thinking, what can I do? I'm just one person in a world with almost seven billion people. What
good will my prayers do? Did you know that every great revival that ever happened in history, started with one
person on their knees praying and begging God to do something? Who knows the next one could start because
you are praying and trusting God for it?
2 Chronicles 7:14
14. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn
from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
If God’s people would do as 2 Chronicles 7:14 says. If only they would humble themselves, meaning that they
would come before God seeking his help and knowing in their heart that they do not have the answers, but God
does. If they would humble themselves and pray and seek his face, trusting him to do what He does, without telling
him what they want Him to do, but instead allowing him to do what he desires, and If we would turn from our
wickedness, and start following God with all our heart, he would hear from heaven and heal our land.
What a sweet thought this is - God healing our land, and putting things back in order. I for one would love to
see this happen, wouldn't you? If you humble yourself before god, seek his face, and pray, repenting for your sinful
ways, and trusting him to do what he said he would do, He will.
Everything we have everything we are, we are because of God. Now let me rephrase that. Everything good
that we have, and everything wholesome and Holy is because of God, and Satan does not it. His desire is to draw
you away from God and deceive you into turning away from the many blessing God has for you, so that you will
not go to heaven, but instead will burn in hell for all eternity with him.
Even so Satan doesn't want you. He has absolutely no desire to have your company, but he doesn't want
God to have you so he tries to hurt God by deceiving you and drawing you away from him. The battle is not
between us and Satan although we are in the midst of it, the battle is between God and Satan, between evil and
good, and we are stuck right in the center, torn between right and wrong, and suffering because of it. However,
there is hope
1. I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
If you think you can fight this battle alone, you are wrong. If you think you can make it to heaven by half-
heartedly following the Lord, again you are wrong. If you think you are not going to be bothered by Satan because
you are a child of God, think again. Because you are a child of God, Satan is going to try you more. Because you
are a Christian, Satan is going to test you and try to make you fail God. This is why we need to pray, why we need
to put our faith and trust entirely in God, and why we need to repent of our wickedness, and follow God with all of
Psalm 127 tells us that we should look to the hills for our help, not just any old hill, but to Mount Zion, the holy
City of God. The writer goes on to say that our help comes from the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth. If
God made the heaven and the earth, he most definitely can fight our battles and keep us from the evil one. God
made everything. He formed us in our mother’s womb, and breathed the breath of life into us when we were born.
He hung the stars in the sky and there they have remained since the beginning of time. If he can do those things,
can he not restore our land, and bring a healing to our world?
Psalms 27 goes on to say that God never sleeps or slumbers. We need our sleep and we need to rest, but
God never sleeps. He is always watching over those he loves. When you give yourself to Him, he keeps you
under his wings and protects you from the evil one. Bad things might happen to you, but God will be there to lead
you through the valley and shadow of death, and with his rod and staff he will fight your battles for you.
Verse seven says
7. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
God’s will is different than ours. When Jesus was about to go to his death, he prayed to God asking him to let
the cup of death and suffering pass from hi, but than he said, not my will but thy will be done. Jesus did not want to
suffer, but he knew he had too. And there are times when we have to suffer as well. I wish I did not’t have to say
this, but it is true. Often we pray to God asking for a healing or for a situation to change but everything remains the
same. Does this mean God does not’t love us? Not in the least.
The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. We may have to face evil, and we may
have to suffer, Jesus did, but God will preserve our soul. When it comes down to the brass tacks, that’s what is
really important, having our soul preserved. It really does not matter about the body and how it may suffer, what
matters is that our soul is preserved by God and Satan cannot take us away from God for we are his.
What is tomorrow going to bring? I don’t know. But I do know who is going to be with us, and empower us so
that we can make it through what happens. I don’t know what evil might be lurking around the corner, but God
does and whatever it is, God can and will preserve our soul and keep us for himself. I don’t know what sicknesses
or hardships we might have to face, but God will be with as we walk through it and he will give us strength to make
it to the other side.
We are dependent upon God. He holds the key to life and the key to the future. We are his servants, and we
are here to serve him and do his will. It's not the other way around. God does not have to do what we tell him, after
all, he's God, and we are his creation.
Thankfully, we are a bit more than that, through the blood of Christ, we are adopted into his family and
become one of his children. As his child, he desires to help and care for us, in much the same way an earthly
father does his children. Yet, God desires our respect, and He desires our devotion to him. He expects us to obey
his commandments and follow his will. If this means that we will have to suffer a bit while here on this earth, so be
it. If this means we will have hard times, and devastation, so be it. In the end, it will have all been worth it, when we
receive out inheritance in heaven.
The more I see of this world, and the evils therein, the more I crave and yearn for heaven. Knowing there is
something better waiting is worth the wait, and worth all the struggles that I may have to go through to get there.
Knowing I will be in the presence of my Lord and savior Jesus Christ, is worth all the pain I may have to endure,
and what is my my pain and suffering compared to what he suffered for me on the cross of Calvary.
You may have suffered great pain and hardships, You may have had a dreadful diseases, and persecution.
As the world winds down, we all might have to face excruciating pain and torment, but there will be nothing we are
asked to endure, which will begin to compares to the suffering and pain Jesus endured on the cross of Calvary.
He was an innocent man and was completely sinless and pure. Yet he took the sins of all mankind upon
himself and carried them to the cross. That alone must have been overwhelming to him. Then too, he carried
every sickness and disease known to man to the cross. He was racked with pain and suffering greater than
anything we will ever be forced to endure. Add to that the fact that God the Father turned his back on Jesus
because he was unable to look upon his sinless son, who was now full of our sins and suffering, and Christ
suffering was complete. No matter what happens to us, no matter what we may have to endure, no matter what
situation we are in, if you are a child of God, Jesus will never leave you or forsake you, no matter what happens.
Thats his promise.
The world is falling apart. Satan is on a rampage doing his best to destroy all that is good and wholesome.
He wants to hurt God by hurting man. Times are tough, but the strong will survive. Not the strong in the physical
sense, but instead the strong in the spiritual sense.
Now more than ever, we need to turn from the things of the world, and cling to the things of God. Now more
than ever we need to be on our knees praying like our future depends on it, for it does. Now more than ever we
need to trust God in everything and for everything. I can promise you this, the world is going to get worse, and evil
is going to increase, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings
as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
There is one hope, one God and one salvation. Trust God, follow Christ, and he will lead you to heaven. All
other roads lead to hell.
