“PROVERBS”
LESSON TWO

Verse 10 - My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

     [A] To entice means what
[1] To tempt by offering something attractive
[2] To make a person or animal do something by offering something that is desirable
[a] Isn’t this what Satan does to us in order to tempt us?

             [3] Genesis 3: 1-6
                     1.   Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had
made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of
                           the garden?
                     2.   And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
                     3.   But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not
eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
                     4.   And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
                     5.   For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye
shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
                     6.   And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the
eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat,
and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

[a] Satan enticed Eve to do wrong, by convincing her the tree would make her wise
                             like God
[b] He also convinced her she would not die
[1-a] Satan mixes truth with lies, to entice us to do things,
[2-a] If he can get us to believe the truth he tells us, it’s easy for him to get us
                                     to believe the half lies
[4] What are some of the ways Satan tries to entice us?

[B] When a sinner entices you what are you supposed to do?
             [1] Consent not to him.
[2] Refuse to talk to them

Verse 11 - If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

[A]  If the sinner says, Come with us
[1] This is precisely how workers of iniquity form their partnerships and constitute their
                     marauding societies
[a] Often a young man of woman falls into evil because or the company they are
                             Keeping
[b] Through peer pressure, they fall into temptation
[c] It is a simple as being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and a person can be
                             ruined for life
[d] This is why, when the sinner entices us, we are not to consent - or rather to do as
                             the bible says

                             1 Corinthians 6:18
                             18. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth
fornication sinneth against his own body.

            1 Corinthians 10:14
                             14. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

                             1 Timothy 6:10-11
                             10. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from
the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
                             11. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
                                   patience, meekness.

     2 Timothy 2:22
                             22. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the
Lord out of a pure heart.

[2] Basically we should flee from all temptation and all sin

[B] If the sinner says, let us lay wait for blood, Let us rob and murder.
[1] A person has to look into their heart and allow the Holy Spirit to lead them,
[2] Unfortunately there are many of our children learning and believing that murder is nothing. They see it on
                     TV, and think it’s cool.

[C] Let us lurk privily, Let us lie in ambush for our prey.
[1] To all these things, the writer says, do not consent to them

Verse 12-13 - Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: We shall find all
precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

[A] He continues to warn us to beware of the evil ones, and not to consent to their asking us to help them commit
             wrong,

[B] He warns the listener about being enticed by the sinner with dreams of becoming rich and having much at the
             expense of others .

Verse 14 - Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

[A] When that sinner entices you by saying we will share in everything equally, still beware and do
             not consent

[B] You may have equal share with the plunder, but there will also be an equal share in the
             Punishment

Verse 15 -16  - My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

[A] Here is very good advice to a young man, a young woman, or for that matter, anyone.
[1] Walk not thou in the way with them
[a] Is this not the problem in society today?
[b] Is not even the church walking in the way of the sinners, and instead of standing up
and proclaiming what the bible says, it is conforming to the world and allowing
all manors of sin to enter in?
[c] Isn’t this what is happening in our society and the world?
[d] Is not the world accepting the things of Satan and crowding out the things of God,
seeking the advice of the wicked instead of seeking the will of God?
[1-a] Look at how we in America are taking the constitution, which was
written by Godly men, who were concerned with obeying God and
establishing a country on Godly values and today man is claiming that
we are not a Christian nation and our constitution was never intended to
                                     be a Christian document.
[2-a] Look at how the constitution guarantees freedom of religion, meaning
that we are free to worship God, and practice our Christian values and
beliefs, with no intervention from the Government, and today we are
being forced to refrain from practicing our Christian beliefs, so other
religions and non-religious people will not be offended.
[2] Refrain thy food from their path
                     [a] Again, very good advice
[b] We have allowed ourselves to walk the same path as the wicked, and as a result we
                             have become corrupted by them.
[c] Secondly, instead of being a leader, the Church as passively set back and allowed
the non-believer to be the leaders and we have suffered as a result

     [B] Verse sixteen
[1] Their feet run to evil
[a] It makes sense that the non-believer would run to evil
                             [a-1] Sin is attractive
                             [2-a] Sin promises immediate pleasure
[3-a] Sin is loud and demanding
[b] Because sin is all these things, it is an easier path to follow than Christianity
[2] They make haste to shed blood
[a] This does not necessarily mean to kill someone - it can mean the destruction of
                             others through various means
[b] The warning here is strong, when other do or plan to do evil, get away from them
and follow the proper path, instead of the path to destruction.

Verses 17-18 - Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

[A] This is a proverb of which the wise man here makes a particular use; and the meaning does not
seem as difficult as some imagine.
[1] The wicked are represented as lurking and waiting for the innocent.
             [2] It is in this way alone that they can hope to destroy them and take their substance;
             [3] If their designs were known, precautions would be took against them;
[4] It would be vain to spread a net in sight of the birds men wish to ensnare.

[B] His advice to us is to attend his counsel, and the wicked will not be able to ensnare us.
[1] For sure, the wicked, who are the servants of Satan are out to get us.
[2] We are at war with Satan, and he uses man to do his dirty deeds.

Verse 19 - So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners
     thereof.

[A] So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain
[1] Those who are greedy determine in their heart to have what they want regardless of what
they have to do to get it.
[2] Greed is considered to be one of the deadly sins, and causes much problems in the world .

     [B] A covetous man is in effect, and in the sight of God, a murderer;
[1] He wishes to get all he can by any means he has to take
[2] He does not consider others families, or the consequences of his actions.
[3] This is the case with those who sets up shop after shop in different parts of a town and to
undersell others in that same trade, so he can get all the business into his hands.

[C] Greed is a strong desire for more: It is an overwhelming desire to have more of something than
             what you actually need
[1] What do you see as the problem with Greed?
[2] What does Greed do to us?
[3] Why is Greed contrary to the teaching of Christ?

[D] Consider this, earlier I said that covetousness is in the sight of God murder. I want to add to that
and say that Greed which is covetousness, is also murder in the sight of God.
[1] What makes these things murder in the sight of God?
