Proverbs 5:1-2
    1.   My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
    2.   That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

Verse one - My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

[A] You may notice in this verse, that you see words similar to words we have seen elsewhere

[B] Solomon is speaking to his son,
[1] In this case he is speaking to all young men,
[2] The Spirit of God through him is speaking to all of us.

    [C] Attend to my wisdom
[1] Listen to the words I have to say
[2] Obey the teaching I have for you

    [D] Bow thine ear
            [1] Listen to my sayings
[2] To bow is to humble yourself, so he is saying to humble your ear to him, and listen intently
with a humble and a learning heart

Verse two - That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

[A] That thou mayest regard discretion
[1] Solomon's lectures are not designed to fill our heads with notions
[2] They are not meant to make us feel good
[3] They are not meant to make us doubtful in our faith
[4] They are meant to guide us and help us to live a faithful life and to act prudently

[B] that thy lips may keep knowledge.
[1] When the truth of God’s word, the knowledge that has been imparted by him is in our
heart, those should be the words that come from our mouth.
[2] Those things we learn from God the wisdom that he has imparted unto us, out to be
[3] Solomon warns us not to let the words of God depart from our lips, for what we have in0
our heart is what we hear spoken from our lips.

Proverbs 5:3-4
    3.  For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
    4.  But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

Verse three
[A] The lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb
[1] There is much more to this verse than just the talk about a strange woman
            [2] Never the less, a strange woman is a harlot - a prostitute -
[3] In this passage, Solomon is referring to the strange woman, to make a point about any sin,
any wickedness that were are enticed to do
[a] Satan is like a prostitute on the street trying to entice all the men she can to come
into her house of ill repute
[b] He like her, uses every means possible to entice us, and to get us to do his bidding
[c] He  promises all manors of good things, pleasure, wealth, happiness, and much00
more, trying to make his sin sound as sweet as a honeycomb.

[B] Her mouth is smoother than oil
[1] Satan is a smooth talker, making everything sound so good
[2] He is slicker than a used car salesman, and slicker than the finest politician
[3] The bible says he is the father of all lies, and he uses every one he can to deceive us.

Verse four
[A] Her end is bitter as wormwood
[1] All of Satan’s lies are just that lies.
[2] His promises of happiness, turn out to be promises of despair
[3] His promises of feeling better, of feeling good, turn out to be a promise of sadness, and

[B] Sharp as a twoedged sword
[1] Those things we are promised that are to make us feel good, cuts us like a two edged
sword, Instead of doing us good, we are destroyed
[a] Anyway it goes in or out, up or down, it cuts and hurts us

Proverbs 5:5-6
    5.  Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
    6.  Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

Verse five
[A] Her feet go down to death
[1] Listening to this strange woman, harkening to the wiles of Satan lead to death
[2] The death spoken of here is not physical death, but instead it is eternal death.
Revelation 21:8
                         8.   But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part
in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
[b] The second death is spiritual death - eternal separation from God

[B] Her steps take hold on hell
[1] The result of spiritual death, is hell
[2] First death is separation from the body, when the spirit leaves the body and goes to it’s
                    final eternal destiny
[3] Second death only applies to the unbeliever, to those who fall pray to the seductions of
                    Satan - the lost
[a] The saved live forever in heaven with Christ - once their spirit leaves their body,
they move on to heaven where they start to live eternal life, experiencing the
                            joys and splendors of heaven
[b] The lost, experience total separation from God,
                            [1-a] Jesus said, in
John 14:6
                                     6.  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me.
[2-a] Because Jesus is life, separation from him is death - which is called the
                                     second death

Verse six
[A] Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life
[1] There is one way to heaven, one path for the believer to walk on
[2] Here Solomon is warning us to beware that we do not heed to the tempter and stray off the
                    proper path.
[3] He warns that we should not even ponder the path of life, but instead heed to the words of
God, and follow the one true path to righteousness

    [B] Her ways are moveable,
[1] The woman who here is speaking of Satan is movable
[a] He does not always do the same things
[b] He changes his style and his method
[c] He finds new ways to tempt you
[d] He finds new ways to entice you
[e] He finds new ways to get to you,
[2] He does whatever it takes to get you to sin

[B] That thou canst not know them
[1] Satan changes his methods to confuse us, so that we will know them
[2] What he used against us yesterday, we might not fall for today
[3] The bottom line is, that we have to be prepared all the time and guard against him

Proverbs 5:7-8
    7.  Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
    8.  Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

Verse seven
    [A] Hear me now therefore
[1] Solomon again is telling his hearers to listen
[2] We have seen him numerous time urge his listener to heed his words, and listen to his
[a] I can’t help but think that God is calling out from heaven to man, telling them to
hear his words, and obey them
[b] I can’t help but believe that the earthquakes and all the freaky weather is exactly
that, God telling man to straighten up and start living his word, and obeying his
commandments, for he is coming soon.

[B] Depart not from the words of my mouth
[1] Jesus said, if you love me keep my commandments
[2] Throughout the bible we find references of God telling the people to keep his
                    commandments and follow him

Verse eight
[A] Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
[1] This is the same thing we looked at before,
[a] If you are aware of sin being somewhere stay away
[b] If there is something that might tempt you, take another route
[d] If you have difficulties doing the right thing when you are certain places, don’t go
[2] Never give Satan opportunity to get to you

Proverbs 5:9-10
    9.   Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
    10. Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

[A] What this is saying is
[1] Stay clear of the advice of sinful people
[2] Steer away from the wiles of Satan
[3] Refuse even to listen to what Satan and his followers have to stay
            [4] Lest you
[a] Give honor to Satan by heeding him
[b] That you give your years to evil instead of doing good for God
[c] Strangers - Satan and his followers are filled with you wealth - instead we are to lay
                            up our treasures in heaven
[d] Labours be in the house of a stranger - Our work is supposed to be for the house
and the kingdom of God - what a shame it would be to go through life and all
                            your labors be in vain.

[B] Our goal in life should be to lay up our treasures in heaven, to do the commandments op God, and
to work diligently for him, so that many might be ready to meet him when he comes

Proverbs 5:11-13
    11. And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
    12. And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
    13. And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

Verse eleven - And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

[A] When thou mourn at the last
[1] In the end, when either death has occurred or Jesus has come to take the church home
-                         mourning will occur for the unbeliever
[2] Jesus said there would be weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth in hell
[3] Those who have been cast into hell will mourn and weep because they refused to accept
and follow Jesus for eternal life, of course then it will be over for them and they will  be facing
                    eternal destruction

[B] When thy flesh and thy body are consumed
[1] The spirit leaves the body, and remains here on earth
[2] The body eventually decays, and returns to dust

Verse twelve - And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

[A] At that time, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
[B] For the rest of eternity, the soul of those who have been cast into outer darkness, will cry out to
God, but he won’t hear them

[C] When the doomed stand before God and are judged
[1] They will admit that they hated his instruction
[2] They will admit that they despised reproof
[3] They will know in their heart of hearts why they are not allowed into heaven
[a] When the unrighteous stand before he who is righteous, they will have no
alternative but to fall on their face before him,
[b] They will cry out for mercy, but mercy will flee them - the time for mercyh will
                            have passed

Verse thirteen -  And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that
    instructed me!

[A] Again, here we find the proof that the doomed will know what they did not do

[B] Those who cry out against the believers today, will cry out for deliverance, as they confess their
            Sins to God
[1] The time for confession will have passed,
[2] All that remains for them, is everlasting punishment

Proverbs 5:14
    14. I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
[A] Here the sinner confess that even among the people of God, even in the presence of God, his
thoughts and mind was on evil.
[1] When he should have been learning goodness, he was pondering badness
[2] When he was around those who tried to help him, he was trying to influence his badness
                    on them
[3] He professed to be a godly person, but walked in darkness

[B] The end result of his actions was to be judged unworthy and was cast into outer darkness, to
            suffer for ever and ever
